Wireless transceiver improves packet channels

AMIC Communication Corp. (Amiccom) has launched A7125 in volume production with a 2Mbit/s data rate and high performance 2.4GHz transceiver IC having an ideal transmission distance within 50m. The A7125 is an ultralow power wireless FSK transceiver having a working frequency of 2400?2483MHz ISM band.

It only needs one register for users to change its working frequency. Incorporating the Multi-channels (?40) and Clear Channel Indication design gives ease in managing frequency hopping. The control interface of A7125 is SPI, which simplifies programming TX power, read/write FIFO, access 8bit digital RSSI, data rate etc. Its unique strobe command is used to control A7125 built-in state machine. Users will only need to send one command via SPI for packet transmission.

A7125 has embedded LDO with an operating range from 2V to 3.6V and its TX power could be shifted from -10dBm to 3dBm having high Rx sensitivity of -90dBm. When data rate is set to only 1Mbps, the Rx sensitivity can be lower than -92dBm. At the same time, the transceiver can support reference design of A7125+External PA (20dBm/10dBm) for longer distance applications.

It has a self-calibration mechanism and helps operation options of auto RSSI measurement, data whitening, packet correction, high precision clock output for MCU crystal sharing, FIFO mode and direct mode. A7125 has no SAW filter and balun required for module design but only few external passive components needed. Users can also use the A7125 built-in thermal sensor, battery detector and 8bit ADC for other applications.

It is suitable for short-range wireless data/audio/video streaming. According to its 2Mbit/s data rate including lower power architecture, it is also compatible with baby monitor, wireless earphone/speaker, wireless mice/keyboard, home security, RF remote control, game pad and toys.

Looking closely at its marketability, A7125's RX sensitivity is claimed to be sufficient than commercial ones. This chip mixes its advantages with other competitor's 2.4GHz RF ICs. It also aids the four kinds of low-cost crystals (6M/8M/12M/16M). With its unique cost structure, A7125 may be used for huge wireless applications.
