Agilent Technologies Inc. has launched the latest members of the S-8800 family of RF design verification and conformance test solutions such as the GS-8853 3G RF Conformance Test (RCT) system. The system for mobile handset conformance test presents measurement speed, accuracy and repeatability features of Agilent products in producing reliable and high-performance test process. Such capabilities will be helpful for wireless test laboratories, handset manufacturers, chipset vendors and nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMs) performing full wireless RF conformance test.

Meeting standards
The GS-8853 RCT system produces accurate, repeatable measurements, examining handsets to comply with the individual test standards according to the Global Certification Forum for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System mobile phones. PCS-type certification review board validation will be introduced next. The system is used on the successful Agilent 8960 wireless communications test set. This platform includes other high-performance Agilent instruments as well as the Anite Baseband Processor and Anite System Software to perform RF conformance testing to 3GPP TS34.121-1 test specifications for Release 99 W-CDMA and Release 4/5 W-CDMA/HSDPA technology. Everything is within one test platform.

Used in multiple technology formats (e.g., 2G to 3G and 3.5G conformance test) and a wide range of bands such as Band 1, II and V, the GS-8853 flexibility reduces the user's capital investment, promotes development of quality products and offers a simple means to upgrade path for Release 6/7 HSPA/HSPA+ formats by 2008.

Setting apart
"Measurement speed, accuracy and repeatability are key features of the new 3G RF conformance test system," said Niels Fach, VP and general manager, mobile broadband division, Agilent. "Along with its support for multiple formats and scalability, the GS-8853 intensifies the company's portfolio of solutions particularly wireless standards across the entire R&D lifecycle helping the customers to have the necessary tools in making high-quality, standards-based mobile handsets."

Multiple functions
Agilent's GS-8800 family of multiformat RF design verification and conformance systems include the GS-8811 and GS-8812 benchtop design verification systems, as well as the GS-8830 Series rack-mount design verification systems. The GS-8800's gauging capacities are supported by an RF interface module, which carries RF switching and conditioning, and achieves the highest and accurate measurement possible. The software encompasses predefined tests that meet the individual technology standard, as well as a design verification environment where users can easily configure or modify these tests. According to the core platform of Agilent test equipment and software, the GS-8800 family has scalable solutions for the entire product lifecycle meeting the advanced requirements for both R&D design verification and conformance test.
