Raltron Electronics Corp. has released the VSO9900A series of voltage-controlled SAW device-based oscillators (VCSOs) that provides very low jitter at high frequencies.

Using a SAW device, the VSO9900A series bypasses many multiplication stages necessary to achieve a high frequency with standard crystal-based designs. The oscillators have a frequency range from 400MHz to 1GHz emphasizing typical frequencies used in the optical transmission domain (622.08MHz, 644.531MHz, 669.327MHz etc.). The series fits applications like SONET/ synchronous digital hierarchy, base stations, high-speed data transfer, optical transmission and all kinds of PLLs.

The VCSOs, offered in a compact 5mm x 7mm x 2.5mm package, produce a jitter as low as 0.100ps-rms within a bandwidth from 12KHz to 20MHz, phase noise of -150dBc/Hz at 10KHz offset from carrier and an absolute pull range (APR) of 100ppm. The devices operate on a supply voltage of 3.3V and feature LVDS or low-voltage positive emitter coupled logic complementary outputs as well as an enable/disable function.
