Module enables better features for 45nm processors

Equipped with space-saving and energy-saving 45nm high-end processors, Kontron AG announced that its latest ETXexpress-PC COM Express computer-on-module (COM) sets new performance-per-watt standards for embedded applications with high demands on data processing and/or multimedia conversion and output.

Based on the low-power 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo processor SP9300 and Intel GS45 chipset, "Kontron's COM Express module excels over the past 65nm dual core processor offerings by enabling faster core speeds (up to 2.26GHz), more L2 cache (6Mbyte) and a faster FSB (1066MHz), but without a comparable increase in energy consumption," the company said.

For high-end data and media-processing applications that require maximum performance, the 2.26GHz (1066MHz front side bus [FSB]) version of the ETXexpress-PC module offers CPU typical dissipation power (TDP) of 25W. For intensive data-processing applications, the Kontron ETXexpress-PC is Kontron's first COM Express pin-out type 2 computer-on-module to support up to 8Gbyte of dual-channel memory via two DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets for even faster bus speeds and higher peak throughput.

The low power version of the Kontron ETXexpress-PC with the 1.3GHz Intel ultralow voltage Core 2 Duo processor (800MHz FSB) requires a TDP of 10W, making it suitable for power-sensitive applications. The company also offers a 1.86GHz processor version.
