Connectors deliver versatility in multiple apps

C&K Components has created a series of rectangular microminiature connectors that comply with European Space Agency (ESA) specifications. Known as the MDMA series, the connectors can be interchangeable with ESA Micro D Connectors (ESA ESCC specification 3401-029) and MIL-DTL-83513 products, and provide removable crimp contacts that also meet ESA requirements.

"The MDMA series connectors are part of the Micro D devices available with removable contacts for space applications," said Gilles Parguey, high reliability connector product manager, C&K Components. "The removable crimp contacts give the users with improved versatility, as they can fit and crimp the cable diameter and length during final assembly to achieve specific application requirements."

The connectors are best used in flight equipment, payloads and harnesses, satellites and launchers. These can also be used in engineering models, ground equipment and testing. They can be very useful in medical and high reliability military and aerospace applications.

Using twist pin contact technology, the MDMA connectors are available in 9-, 15-, 25- and 37-way configurations, and are compatible with 26-28 AWG wire. The crimp tool is taken from the D-sub connector crimp tool concept. An ideal cable locator is available, and contact extraction tools are delivered with each connector. Optional interfacial moisture and humidity sealing can be made available by request.
