Texas Instruments Inc. and Ittiam Systems have launched a new Internet Protocol (IP) video phone solution based on TI's VoIP chipset. The chipset combines TI's existing TNETV1051 VoIP solution with the TNETV1644 DaVinci video processor. The chips are bundled with TI's Telogy Software for VoIP and Ittiam's video software.

The TNETV1051 VoIP chip is a SoC that has a TMS320C55x DSP core and a 300MHz MIPS core. Its peripherals have a Gbit Ethernet port and a unique static packet filter. The TNETV1644 DaVinci video processor is essentially a DM6437 chip bundled with Ittiam video software.

The new solution is suitable to large enterprises, small to medium businesses and residential segments. TI said the solution is applicable for multiple applications that may provide functions other than video conferencing. In the case of a financial enterprise, this can stream video from financial broadcasters like CNBC to the desktop phone. This will also free up bandwidth on the corporate IT network that would otherwise be used by individuals accessing unique streams from their PCs.
