Unicon Systems Inc. has tapped Wolfson Microelectronics' audio for its latest Linux-based mobile solution. The Hermes Mobile Platform combines advanced architecture with a rich set of peripherals in an ultraslim form factor, offering: flexibility, differentiation and a very cost effective, fast path to market for mobile system designers, says Unicon. Hermes uses Wolfson high performance multimedia audio with a WM8753 dual audio interface codec, and two WM9001 class D speaker drivers, supported by Wolfson-developed Linux drivers.

Remarked Dimitriy Ivanov, chief technology officer, Unicon Systems: "Wolfson really leads the field in Linux driver development and support for high performance audio. Their outstanding software support has been a key enabler in selecting and bringing our award winning Hermes product to the market."

"Wolfson are all about enhancing the audio experience; for consumers, for manufacturers of consumer goods and for the engineers who design for these manufacturers. Our aim is that nobody needs to compromise on audio performance, regardless of platform or operating system and investing in a full suite of Linux drivers is part of that commitment," said Peter Frith, chief technology officer at Wolfson.
