Fujitsu Ltd has been selected by NTT DoCoMo Inc. to be a supplier of core network systems for the carrier's next-generation Super 3G high-speed wireless communications network.

Fujitsu will supply components of the core network system Evolved Packet Core (EPC), comprised of S-GW systems, which handle data transmissions with mobile handsets, and P-GW systems, which connect the core network to corporate and other external networks.

In 2006, NTT DoCoMo selected Fujitsu to develop and manufacture both wireless base stations and handsets for its Super 3G network, which is based on the emerging Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard designed to enable high-speed transmission of large volumes of data. With this latest announcement, Fujitsu will be supplying comprehensive systems for the next-generation network, encompassing everything from wireless base stations and core network systems to mobile phones.
