Quantum3D Inc. has released Sentiris AV1, a PCIe Mezzanine Card (XMC) that addresses the needs of high safety- and security-critical applications such as primary flight instrumentation and multilevel security systems.

Certifiable to DO-178B for software and DO-254 for hardware, Sentiris AV1 provides an obsolescence-proof design. This is achieved by leveraging an FPGA-based video- and graphics-processing core instead of the traditional approach of employing GPUs, which are rapidly made obsolete by end-of-life announcements.

Sentiris AV1's hardware, the core of which is Xilinx's Virtex 5 FPGA, is programmed as an embedded GPU that can be improved over the lifetime of the product. The company's approach is different from traditional GPUs. However, it has fully DO-254 certifiable firmware rather than having a hardware waiver based on a statistical time test. While originally designed for applications such as flight-certified image generation, Sentiris AV1 is also applicable for other uses, such as real-time imaging for medical applications.
