Low-power DC/DCs come in compact package
Keywords:DC/DC converter? compact package? low cost device?

XP Power has launched three families of low power, isolated and regulated DC/DC converters that come in industry standard metal-cased DIP-24 package measuring 1.25-inch x 0.80-inch x 0.40-inch (31.75mm x 20.32mm x 10.40mm). The converters offer 8-, 10- and 12W output models with a 2:1 input voltage range. The DIP-24 format makes them suitable as a low cost drop-in replacement or a power upgrade in existing end products, saving the need to re-design the PCB layout.
The JCJ08 and JCJ10 series are rated at 8- and 10W, respectfully while the JCG12 is rated at 12W. The units offer the wide 2:1 input voltage options of 9- to 18Vdc, 18- to 36Vdc or 36- to 75Vdc, covering the nominal application voltages of 12-, 24- and 48Vdc. Single output models are available with an output voltage of 2.5-, 3.3-, 5-, 12- or 15Vdc. Dual output models offer 12 or 15Vdc outputs and 5Vdc for the JCJ08. The outputs are regulated to within 0.5 percent over all input conditions and to less than 1 percent for all load conditions. The JCJ08 and JCJ10 models provide an input to output isolation of up to 1,500Vdc for one minute. The JCG12 series is rated to 1,600Vdc isolation.
The units operate over a wide temperature range of -40C to +100C. No additional heat sinking or forced airflow is required for the converter to achieve its full output rating.
In addition, the JCG12 units feature a remote on/off signal, which can be used to control the output rails or to sequence start-up procedures. The highly efficient DC/DC converters, up to 91 percent for the JCG12, are also reliable with an MTBF greater than 1 million hours.
All units feature overvoltage and continuous short circuit protection. The JCJ08 single output model is priced at $26.52, while the dual output JCG12 is priced at $31.98, both in 500 quantities.
