Vishay's 5V infrared receivers sport upgrades

Vishay Intertechnology has announced that it is upgrading the performance of its 5V infrared receivers with a new-generation IC that increases sensitivity of the device by 15 percent while improving pulse width accuracy.

The IC is one of the major determinants of performance in an IR receiver, along with the photo diode and the optical package itself. Sensitivity directly affects the range of a receiver and is critically important in most IR receiver applications.

Further improvements resulting from the new IC include a 30 percent reduction in device operating current; a broader power supply range of 3V to 5V; greatly enhanced immunity to EMI and ESD; and an improved battery saving mode.

Beginning this month, the new IC will become a standard feature of all Vishay 5V infrared receivers in both the Minicast and molded through-hole packages. The upgraded devices can be identified on the Vishay's Website by their part numbers beginning with TSOP2X.., TSOP4X.., TSOP58X.., and TSOP59X.., and by the word "New" in the datasheet title.

No price increase is planned for the upgraded receivers. For U.S. delivery is $1 per piece. Samples of the devices are available now. Production quantities will be available this month, with lead times of four weeks for larger orders.
