MRAM firm eyes nanosensor tech for multiple apps

MRAM developer Micromem Technologies Inc. said the company has built a New York office for its U.S. subsidiary as part of the plan of focusing on magnetic sensor opportunities, independent of the magnetic RAM market.

It added that it has shifted from R&D to business development giving importance on the application of its magnetic sensors to serve unmet needs in the aerospace, defense and consumer markets.

Micromem Applied Sensor Technologies Inc. (MAST), the company's subsidiary, has GC-0301, which the parent company claimed to be most sensitive hall sensor available across a large environmental operating temperature range without the need for external amplification.

Joe Fuda, CEO, Micromen, said the company's next step is to ink parallel joint development deals with marquee companies. "This third party validation of our technology is extremely valuable," he added.

MAST cited its contracts with two manufacturing foundries such as GCS Global Communications Semiconductors for consumer products and BAE Systems, one of the largest defense companies worldwide. It also has a contract with BAE to produce nanosensor technology for military, law enforcement and homeland security applications.

With many consumer allocation designs under its wing, MAST said it is looking into starting to commercialize products for input devices, security, natural resource explorations and medical diagnostic sensors.

Fuda said MAST is determined to advance the development of its memory products, where the company is making progress.

MAST said it will be working in accordance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations, as requirement when working with U.S. defense companies.
