LCD TV design solution achieves 90% efficiency

Fairchild Semiconductor's Global Power Resource design center in Japan has developed a design for LCD TVs that claims to achieve 90 percent efficiency.

The new design reduces the traditional four layers of PCB board to two, by utilizing the highly integrated FAN5069 and n-channel MOSFET products. The FAN5069 combines a pulse-width modulated controller and a low drop out linear regulator controller in a single package to provide high efficiency over a wide range of load current. Efficiency is further enhanced by using low-side MOSFETs with low RDS(ON) to sense current. The n-channel MOSFETs reduce switching losses and optimize conduction losses. Both products are highly integrated to increase system efficiency and reduce component count.

This center in Japan, as well as all of Fairchild's design centers, is staffed with highly qualified technical engineers strategically located close to specific customers. The center in Japan provides designs solutions for power applications such as games, digital display panels and white goods markets.
