The addition of the Stonestreet One team expands Alereon's software capabilities, adding depth of expertise in Linux, Windows XP, Vista, Mobile and the future Windows 7. The latest software produced by Alereon and Stonestreet One has the highest throughput in the industry and has created the world's only Wireless USB bi-directional isochronous solution, enabling wireless USB applications for both audio and webcams. Software acquired in this transaction includes wireless USB WHCI, device wire adapter and host wire adapter drivers.
"We are pleased to have acquired this part of the business from Stonestreet One," said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. "The market for Wireless USB products continues to expand, and the addition of the intellectual property and engineering expertise from Stonestreet One provides us additional resources to accelerate our customers' ability to bring new products to market."
Alereon's AL5000 family includes the AL5300/AL5100 wireless USB chipset and the AL5350/AL5100 wireless USB chipset with a PCIe interface. Both are based on WiMedia's common radio platform and integrate all essential RF circuitry plus the BBP/MAC and software to develop a worldwide wireless USB product.
The Alereon AL5000 chipset family transmits and receives WiMedia band groups one through six, which span frequencies of 3.1- to 10.6GHz respectively. Unlike competitive bandgroup one or bandgroup three solutions, which may offer as little as a single channel in non-U.S. applications, Alereon provides consumers in Canada, Europe, Japan, Korea, China and New Zealand with as many as 19 additional channels. Manufacturers standardizing on Alereon solutions can produce a single product or SKU that can be designed and sold worldwide with a simple software modification to meet local regulatory requirements.
