Accel Semiconductor Corp. (AccelSemi) has launched the AS3800 series of low-cost Bluetooth single chips that support Bluetooth SIG V2.0+EDR specification. It is the second generation products of AccelSemi's OceanBlue Bluetooth SoC family for various portable applications.

Fabricated in standard CMOS technology, the AS3800 implements all of the features specified in Bluetooth V2.0+EDR specification with the on-chip Bluetooth protocol stacks and embedded application software, which are entirely developed and owned by AccelSemi. Incorporating the advantages of low power consumption, high performance and reduced footprint, the AS3800 is well suitable for PCs, cellphones, portable multimedia devices, mono and stereo headsets, automotive and other Bluetooth applications.

The AS3800 integrates a 2.4GHz radio frequency transceiver, internal radio power amplifier and digital modem. With advanced digital RF architecture, its receiving sensitivity is less than -84dBm and maximum transmitting power reaches over 4dBm, which results in an effective communication distance more than 20m. A maximum data rate of 3Mbit/s for audio/video and data transfer can be achieved with the most efficient firmware in the industry.

Embedded a high performance MCU, the AS3800 provides multiple controlling interfaces and data ports including high speed UART port, high speed SPI interface, full speed USB port, PCM digital audio port, I2C-compatible interface, I?S-compatible digital audio IF and GPIOS. Fully supporting HCI commands from UART/USB port, the AS3800 has also optional built-in Bluetooth headset, hands free, HID, AV and other profiles.

In addition, the series has a built-in power management unit that accepts single power supply from 2.2- to 4.4V. An external resonator or clock input is required ranging from 8MHz to 32MHz. It is available in small footprint 40-pin 6mm x6mm QFN, as well as optional BGA and CSP package based on application and customer requirement.

AccelSemi provides total Bluetooth solutions with other companion chips including FM radio transmitter AS6200, FM radio tuner AS6600, audio codec with integrated power management unit AS7100. All of these devices are in mass production and available for order.
