VoIP processor earmarked for multimedia phones
Keywords:VoIP? multimedia phone? TI processor?
Texas Instruments has announced the TNETV107x, a new family of VoIP processors for feature-rich desktop phones. The TNETV107x features an ARM11 CPU, TI's TMS320C64x+ DSP, and a 3D graphics accelerator. The family is a stark departure from TI's previous VoIP phone solutions, which used considerably less powerful MIPS CPUs and TMS320C55x DSPs. The upgrade gives the platform the power to support multimedia features like streaming video, touch screen interfaces and advanced productivity applications. The new architecture also gives OEMs access to software written for TI's OMAP and DaVinci lines, which use the same ARM-plus-C64x+ architecture.
The chip comes bundled with TI's Modular Open Voice Engine (MOVE) software, a field-proven voice engine. MOVE supports the addition of custom software, allowing OEMs to build in their own proprietary features.
