NanoServer E3-COM

DSM Computer AG has announced NanoServer E3-COM, its first embedded system based on the Intel Atom N270 processor. The scalable industrial computer integrates a baseboard in mini ITX format developed for this purpose with a COM Express module available long-term that conforms to the PICMG standard.

Thanks to Intel's 82945GME chipset used in the COM Express module, the NanoServer E3-COM offers a wide range of interfaces particularly appropriate to meet the requirements of industrial applications. To allow the flexible connection of various peripheral devices, four USB 2.0 ports are provided with an additional four USB 2.0 interfaces already present on the baseboard, which, if required, can be used by external devices. Two PCI buses (3.3V/5V), one MiniPCI bus and one GbE interface complete the product. If required, a PCI and a PCIe x1 slot can be provided. In addition to the VGA and the DVI-D, an internal LVDS port and a backlight interface with backlight voltage control are provided as graphic interfaces. Additional customer-specific connections can be realized using an I/O shield of the embedded system.

For data storage, the solid industrial PC housing contains an extremely robust 2.5-inch hard disk with 80Gbyte capacity designed for operation in the temperature range -20 to +75C. In addition, a disk-on-module or a CompactFlash can be connected.

The security functionality integrated on the COM Express module that meets the requirements of the Trusted Computing Group allows the application software developed by the customer to be protected from unauthorized accesses. Consequently, in addition to a Trusted Platform Module, the Phoenix Technologies' "TrustedCore" BIOS has been implemented. The NanoServer E3-COM runs under the Windows XP (embedded) OS.

The compact embedded system is installed in a high-quality industrial housing with dimensions of only 220mm x 220mm x 110mm. The high energy efficiency makes the fanless NanoServer E3-COM suitable for mobile applications, such as in industrial automation technology, in transport and logistics, in medical apparatus, and in POS and POI systems.
