Fairchild Semiconductor has developed a common mode rejection (CMR) optocoupler solution designed for solar inverters, motor drives and induction heating applications.

The FOD3120 and FOD3150, 2.5A and 1A output current gate drive optocouplers, are claimed to achieve the highest CMR rating and can easily drive 1200V/20A IGBTs and MOSFETs even in the noisiest industrial environment. This noise immunity is instrumental in preventing unwanted switching which can lead to shoot-through current and damage to the IGBT. These devices also offer tight pulse width distortion (100ns), offering smaller filters, which consume less power and lead to improved power efficiency. With a 1414V peak working voltage, these gate drive optocouplers are able to accommodate high voltage IGBTs.

The new devices utilize Pb-free terminals and have been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020.

The FOD3120 and FOD3150 are available for $1.26 and $0.94, respectively, in 1,000-piece quantities. Samples are available now, delivery is eight weeks ARO.
