Ittiam Systems Ltd has announced a new set of audio and video codecs for the ARM Cortex-A8 processor. The codecs, which leverage ARM's NEON SIMD processing extensions, target mobile phones, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), portable navigation and entertainment devices.

The video codecs include MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VC-1/WMV9, H.264 and MJPEG encoders and decoders. The MPEG-4 SP decoder supports HD playback; all other decoders offer standard definition performance. On the encode side, the codecs support up to VGA resolution.

Audio codecs range from stereo AAC, MP3 and WMA to certified implementations of high fidelity codecs such as AC-3 5.1, WMA Pro 7.1 and AAC-HE 5.1. Ittiam also offers a set of post-processing audio enhancement tools.

Complementing the multimedia codecs, Ittiam offers Media System Software middleware. The middleware includes file parsers, streaming stacks, Digital Rights Management, and content management. The middleware supports Linux and other popular operating systems.
