Maxim Integrated Products has released the MAX13234E-MAX13237E family of RS-232 transceivers that deliver high data rates (up to 3Mbps), low-voltage logic-level translation, low 1?A supply current through the AutoShutdown Plus feature and enhanced ESD protection.

All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs of the devices are protected to 15kV air-gap discharge and 8kV contact discharge per IEC 1000-4-2, as well as 15kV using the human body model. The MAX13234E-MAX13237E enable high-speed data transmission while eliminating the need for external logic-level translation. This family of RS-232 transceivers is well-suited for telematics, GPS devices, point-of-sale equipment, portable electronics and industrial applications.

The MAX13234E/MAX13235E feature two receivers and two transmitters and are available in a space-saving TQFN/TSSOP package. The MAX13236E/MAX13237E have a single receiver and transmitter and are packaged in a compact TQFN. The MAX13235E/MAX1237E guarantee data rates up to 3Mbit/s, while the MAX13234E/MAX13236E support 250Kbit/s operation.

All devices operate from a 3V to 5.5V supply voltage and are fully specified over the -40C to +85C extended temperature range. Prices start at $2.70 for the MAX13234E/MAX13235E, and $1.99 for the MAX13236E/MAX13237E (1,000-up, FOB USA).
