Samsung to manufacture PL chips for Xilinx

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has been selected by Xilinx Inc. as its foundry partner for 45nm FPGA manufacturing. The announcement enables Xilinx to leverage Samsung's advanced process technologies and manufacturing expertise to drive next-generation FPGA products.

"We are pleased to be working with the global leader in programmable logic technology," said Ben Suh, VP of ASIC/foundry business development, system LSI division, Samsung Electronics. "Samsung is committed to delivering world class technology, manufacturing and foundry services required to support Xilinx's leadership FPGA products."

Samsung's 300mm logic process facility, S1 Line, located in Korea, engages with customers designing advanced semiconductors and require manufacturing using leading edge process technologies.

"As a supplier of Common Platform and a recognized leader with a proven high-volume, low-power advanced process, we're glad to have Samsung on board as a foundry partner," said Vincent Tong, senior VP of worldwide quality and new product introductions at Xilinx.

Xilinx has more than 50 percent market share in programmable logic solutions market. Samsung production of Xilinx 45nm products is starting now and will support the growing demand for Xilinx's FPGA solutions.
