Optimum current sensing techniques in CPU converters

Four different methods of sensing current in a buck converter are described, along with the Fairchild parts that incorporate them, and their accuracies, efficiencies and costs are contrasted. Two of the methods give the best efficiency, but have relatively low accuracy; the other two have good accuracy, but differ in efficiency and performance. Overall best performance is obtained using Fairchild锟絪 new third-generation controllers, the RC5052/RC5057.
