MIMO antenna improves WLAN operations

From Laird Technologies Inc. comes the SM24513P3 dual-band multiple input multiple output (MIMO) internal antenna designed to enhance the latest generation of WLAN technology systems. The new 'N' generation of 802.11 provides much greater data throughput rates than the previous 802.11a/b/g standards.

Designed using Laird's proprietary RF optimization tools, the SM24513P3 packs three high-performance antennas onto one PC board assembly for internal connection to a MIMO radio. Integration into a housing containing a MIMO radio is made easy by micro coax cables that are an integral part of the antenna assembly.

The size, gain, and beam pattern of the antenna makes it suitable for indoor WLAN applications in either the 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz or 5.1GHz to 5.9GHz band. This allows OEMs and systems integrators to offer a high-performance and cost-effective built-in MIMO antenna solution for many common WLAN applications, including hospitals, schools and campuses, transport terminals, and other business enterprises.

In addition, radiation patterns are uniform and symmetrical, providing high-level signal density into defined coverage zones, greatly enhancing the performance of 802.11n systems. The dual-band frequency coverage means this antenna can be deployed with any MIMO radio operating in the 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz and 5.1GHz to 5.9GHz bands.

Laird's multi-element antennas are designed for a high degree of internal RF isolation between each of its antenna elementsa critical factor in MIMO systems.

The SM24513P3 operates over a temperature range of -30C to +65C and incorporates polarization diversity that increases data throughput in multipath environments. The RoHS-compliant antennas are available with a wide choice of connector and board configurations, as well as customized versions to fit a variety of OEM housings.
