Single board computer designed for portables

Procelerant PICOZ500

Advanced embedded solutions provider RadiSys Corp. has unveiled one of the smallest, full-featured embedded single board computers at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany.

The Procelerant PICOZ500 is designed for use in small, low-power handheld and portable devices like those found in medical, gaming, ticketing, and test and measurement applications.

Measuring 100mm x 72mm, the PICOZ500 is the latest addition to the Procelerant family of embedded computer products and is designed for handheld and portable equipment with a flexible I/O scheme, battery support and LCD touchscreen support. The I/O signals are routed to headers rather than connectors to provide a lower profile and application specific enclosure options, allowing customers to easily add and route I/O via cables.

Featuring touchscreen and LED backlight support, MicroSD boot, battery charger and BIOS support, the PICOZ500 enables equipment manufacturers to lower their development costs and shorten their development cycles.

"RadiSys has targeted the portable and handheld markets by delivering a small and efficient form factor," said Eric Heikkila, director of embedded hardware and systems with VDC Research Group. "The functionality of this compact board combined with its low power makes it ideal for OEMs developing small and portable embedded devices such as patient monitors, handheld wireless units, gaming consoles and ticketing equipment."

The Procelerant PICOZ500 standard I/O is 100mm x 72mmand uses headers rather than connectors for standard I/O. The board includes sockets for microSD, mini PCIe and a flexible I/O connector with a range of I/O signals.

Besides a TDP of less than 5W and low heat dissipation, the PICOZ500 also offers an integrated LVDS display with touchscreen and LED backlight driver support. The board also offers DC input voltage with a range of 6.0V to 16.8V and supports Li-ion/Li-polymer battery charging and discharging functions. RadiSys also offers up to seven years lifetime with full revision control and sustaining support.

The Procelerant PICOZ500 is available immediately.
