Adapter eases time-triggered networking

To enable system integrators to implement deterministic time-triggered networking in complex distributed systems, TTTech Computertechnik AG has developed a network adapter that supports the company's Time Triggered Protocol (TTP).

The adapter can be used with all standard modules supporting the PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) interface. Customers benefit by faster time-to-market for TTP-based systems and by cutting cost of ownership, the vendor promised. In addition, TTP networks facilitate the development of reusable platforms, and support the separation of application and system interface development.

TTP is a communications protocol for fault-tolerant real-time systems that need defined system interfaces. According to TTTech, the use of the PMC card makes system integrators independent of underlying communications architecture, PHY, network topology and embedded host hardware.

The card makes use of austriamicrosystems AS8202NF communications controller and of Freescale MPC5567 standard host processor. All modules based on a PMC adapter can be integrated into a deterministic network, an important feature in the design of safety-relevant distributed applications.
