The Intel EP80579 offers more performance per watt and application specific performance in less space than three-chip solutions, offering either 600MHz or 1.2GHz, a high-bandwidth DDRII DIMM slot with memory up to 2Gbyte, and a full set of VPN functions such as encryption, hashing and public/private key generation. Storage features include one 3.5-inch SATA HDD and CompactFlash.
The PL-8000 offers 5GbE Copper and a maximum of 8GbE ports via PCIe x1 or x4, accessible on the front-panel. To prevent network problems when the platform shuts down, the PL-8000 supports one segment of LAN bypass function through WDT and GPIO pin definitions.
The front panel has a USB 2.0 port, an RJ-45 console port, and LED indicators to monitor power and storage activities for system management, maintenance and diagnostics. The PL-8000 supports two PCI-E by 4 slots. The unit is RoHS-, FCC- and CE-compliant.
The onboard Intel EP80579 (Tolapai) integrated processor (at 600MHz and 1.2GHz) supports a maximum of 8GbE ports with two segments bypass. A single-channel DDRII SODIMM supports up to 2Gbyte. There is one PCIe x4 expansion slot; one USB 2.0; one 3.5-inch SATA HDD bay; a CF socket and console port.
The PL-8000 is available as a commercial, off-the-shelf platform or can serve as the basis for a custom networking or communications design. Linux, Windows Embedded XP and FreeBSD are supported.
The PL-8000 is available now. Allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. Pricing for the unit with onboard processor begins at $435 in OEM quantities.
