Using the tooth generator eTPU function

This application note provides a simple C interface for the tooth generator eTPU function, used as part of the complete eTPU set 2 automotive function set. The functions can be used on any Freescale product that has an eTPU (enhanced time processor unit) module. Example code is available for MPC55xx/MPC563xM devices.

The tooth generator eTPU function generates signals for the eTPU set 2 to synchronization functions, CAM and CRANK for development and test purposes. This function generates a pair of output signals. The generated CRANK signal is a continuous output signal that mimics the pattern of the signal from a CRANK sensor on an automobile. The tooth generator produces a 360 repeating pattern of teeth with a gap of missing teeth. The generated CAM signal is a 720 single pulse output. The CAM signal output pulse has a programmable start and stop angle.

The tooth generator allows generation of accelerating or a decelerating signal profile and various types of signal pattern errors and noise.
