Vietnam has recently opened the country's first solar cell panel manufacturing facility in southern Long An Province, with an annual capacity of 5MW.

This is according to a Viet Nam News report, which stated that Red Sun Energy Co. and Ho Chi Minh City Energy Conservation Centre invested about $10 million to build the 2,000m? factory in Duc Hoa Ha Industrial Park that will produce solar cell panels with a capacity ranging from 25Wp to 175Wp (watt-peak).

The plant's general director, Dieo Bao Canh, disclosed the solar panels have a life span of more than 25 years and come with a five-year warranty. He added that the panels have a solar efficiency of over 15 percent, and would be 30 to 40 percent cheaper than similar products in the market.

According to Red Sun chairman Huynh Kim Tuoc, 40 percent of the factory's output will be sold domestically and the rest would be exported to Europe and the United States, the report said.
