Embedded computing boards

Avalue Technology Inc. has launched embedded computing boards, industrial motherboards/systems, box PCs and multifunctional panel PCs equipped with Intel Atom platforms.

The EMX-945GSE industrial Mini-ITX form factor motherboard is based on the Intel Navy Pier platform, Atom N270 processor, with mobile Intel 945GSE express chipset, which features the optimal performance with lowest energy waste. Particularly designed by Avalue, the EMX-945GSE supports both 48bit LVDS and two channels of 18bit LVDS with DVI interface (Refer to EMX-945GSE-DVI) for multi-display configurations according to customer's demands. This enables flexibility and allows users to create their own machines.

The Intel Atom processor N270 is power-optimized and delivers dual-core-like performance through its Hyper-Threading Technology, especially for cost-effective embedded solutions.

The EMX-945GSE motherboard supports DDR2 SODIMM memory up to 2Gbyte; it comes with CPU and system monitoring, smart fan control, and watchdog timer. The module offers a solution for embedded market segments such as digital signage, interactive clients (kiosks and POS terminals), thin clients, digital security, residential gateways, print imaging, and commercial and industrial control.

The EMX-945GSE has 32bit graphics engine based on Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with LVDS, DVI, CRT ports to provide multiple graphic displays. Furthermore, this module has an additional support for dual channel 24bit LVDS to present HD video transmission especially when connecting with larger size (17-inch above) LCD panels.

"We removed DVI and developed 24bit LVDS as a pioneer in the market while most of our competitors are launching 18bit LVDS. The other features remain unchanged. By providing great graphic performance and high resolution (up to QXGA 2,048 x 1,536), the EMX-945GSE will fit the bill with its full features," said Harris Chen, manager of IMB product division at Avalue.

The EMX-945GSE comes with PS/2 keyboard and mouse, four COM ports. Networking is provided by two Realtek RTL8111C Gigabit LANs. It provides one IDE connector, two SATA connectors and six USB 2.0 ports. It also offers Realtek ALC888 5.1-CH HD audio with interface Line-in/Line-out/Mic-in, 8bit GPIO and CompactFlash socket. The board delivers high-bandwidth expansion slots with one Mini PCIe and one PCI slot for future add-in card upgrades.

It is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/98/95, Linux and Windows CE operating systems for embedded applications.
