Gaming sensor boasts high-speed motion detection

Avago Technologies is offering a high-performance laser navigation sensor designed for use in high-end, professional gaming applications.

Based on Avago's LaserStream optical navigation technology, the ADNS-9500 features a powerful navigation engine that enables extremely high-speed motion detection and high resolution to provide precise tracking capabilities which are required for many of today's most popular gaming applications. The new laser sensor is designed for use in corded and cordless gaming laser mice, optical trackballs and a variety of motion input devices the require precise, high-speed tracking on a variety of different surfaces.

Avago's ADNS-9500 gaming sensor incorporates an embedded pre-calibrated VCSEL in a single chip-on-board package to simplify manufacturing complexity. A separate round lens (ADNS-6190-002), which is available from Avago, is all that's needed to complete the solution. The two components provide a complete and compact navigation system that has no moving parts. Moreover, a laser calibration process is not required to complete the sensor package making it ideal for high volume assembly. Some of the enhanced features offered by the ADNS-9500 include programmable frame rate and resolution, as well as configurable lift detection to satisfy the preferences of PC gamers.

The ADNS-9500 features small form factor chip-on-board package. The device offers dual power supply selections of 3V or 5V, and 1.65 - 3.3V VDDIO range. In addition, the sensor claims high-speed motion detection up to 150ips and acceleration up to 30g. It also features advanced technology 832- to 865nm wave length VCSEL and a self-adjusting frame rate for optimum performance.

The laser sensor also includes motion detect pin output and an internal oscillator, without the need for external clock input. The device also touts enhanced programmability and is compliant to IEC/EN 60825-1 eye safety requirements.

The ADNS-9500 is available in Pb-free and RoHS compliant small form factor chip-on-board package.
