Using an I/O port to implement IIC communication

Posted: 27 May 2009 ?? ?Print Version ?Bookmark and Share

Keywords:I/O port? communication bus? microcontroller?

The IIC bus includes two serial lines, a clock line, SCL and a data line, SCL. These two lines can be used to implement communication between several devices. When several devices are connected together, one of them must be a master bus controller, while the others must be slave controllers. In this application, a method is introduced showing how a Holtek 8bit RISC microcontroller and related software can be used to implement a bus controller.

The application uses the HT24LC02 EEPROM as a slave IIC device together with any 8bit Holtek microcontroller as the master device. The A0, A1, A2, VSS lines on the HT24LC02 are all connected to ground. VCC is connected to +5V. SCL is connected to PA0 and SDA is connected to PA1.
