The chipset provides a scalable, integrated solution for direct or edge-lit backlight applications in flat-panel LCD TV displays, and supports White LED or RGB LED implementations. Microsemi's products are designed to provide outstanding performance and functionality in demanding LCD TV, notebook computers, automotive and other display platforms and applications. The chipset can easily be integrated with Microsemi's complementary light-sensor and color-management system solutions to deliver additional quality and functionality.
"Customers have been using Microsemi's proven CCFL solutions for many years in a variety of mainstream applications, and now they can take advantage of Microsemi second-generation LED driving technology for the most energy-efficient designs possible," said Tom Kapucija, director of marketing at Microsemi's analog mixed signal group. "Microsemi is committed to supporting its customers during their implementation of this new and efficient green LCD TV display technology."
The LX24132 and LX23108L offers White LED or RGB backlight support for large TV display panels.
The solution also provides up to 32 LED strings with 1.5 percent precision current matching. It also has 100mA LED current drivers at 100 percent duty cycle and up to 200mA at 50 percent duty cycle.
In addition, the solution features wide dimming ratio with PWM and LED current amplitude control. A 12bit PWM duty-cycle resolution and 8bit resolution for LED current setting is provided as well as LED power supply voltage control. The solution also offers SPI communication interface, Integrated open-string, short-LED and over-temperature protection for each individual channel with on-chip thermal monitoring. Lastly, it provide synchronization to external input pulse and scan capability with enable/disable for PWM outputs.
Production samples of the RoHS-compliant LX24132 and LX23108L chipset are available now with high-volume shipments starting in the third calendar quarter of 2009. High-volume OEM chipset quantities are priced at less than 8 cents per port depending on the configuration.
