Connecting Micron CellularRAM devices with the Atmel microcontroller

The Atmel AT91SAM9260 microcontroller features an external bus interface (EBI) that is responsible, through its external memory controllers, for the data transfer between the internal advanced high-performance bus (AHB) and up to 8 external memory devices.

This application note describes preferred methods for connecting the following Micron CellularRAM devices to the Atmel AT91SAM9260 microcontroller: Micron MT45W4MW16PCGA, a 64Mbit, 48-ball device referred to as the 64Mbit device; and the Micron MT45W8MW16BGX, a 128Mbit, 54-ball device referred to as the 128Mbit device.

The proper connection of these Micron devices to the Atmel microcontroller provides an optimal static memory controller configuration. Note that the SMC included in the Atmel controller does not support burst mode, so this application note focuses on asynchronous mode with the Atmel controller.
