Renesas Technology America Inc. has released the second in a series of SoCs that targets the car navigation and infotainment sectors.

The company said its SH77722 is intended for use in portable navigation systems and low- through mid-range dashboard-mounted navigation and infotainment systems.

The SH-NavJ series of SoCs includes a 32bit bus for a DDR2 SDRAM memory interface that allows the SH77722 to handle higher-speed graphics functions. It supports a two-screen display.

Renesas claims the new SoC package is 17 percent smaller than the first-generation package.

The company said sample shipments will be available beginning in July. The sample price for the 499-pin BGA package is $52.
