New Japan Radio Co. Ltd has unveiled NJU26040-09D, a DSP employing virtual surround SRS TruSurround HD/HD4 and Focus technology developed by SRS Labs Inc. The chip features the upgrade from the SRS TruSurround XT and provides a natural 3D acoustic field reproduction to TVs and front multispeaker systems.

The growth of terrestrial DTV, DVD and Blu-ray created a demand for 5.1-channel surround-compatible TVs and A/V systems for household use. But there are problems with 5.1-channel surround speaker systems (i.e. complexity of playback and cumbersome wiring). Thus, New Japan Radio developed the NJU26040-09D DSP that enables high-quality 3D acoustic field reproduction easily.

SRS TruSurround HD features treble enhancement definition, SRS TruBass bass enhancement and treble correction definition for extra-clear virtual surround across a wide frequency range. TruSurround HD4 is configured for four stereo speakers and four-channel amps. This creates a surround effect and 3D acoustic reproduction.

On the other hand, the SRS Focus technology is a sound-elevating technology. For example, if the TV speakers are located at the lower portion of the TV unit, SRS Focus can make the sound seem to come from the same level as the picture. This presents a natural acoustic field.

The NJU26040-09D has TruSurround HD/HD4 on/off function and an Advanced Bypass Mode, which can operate TruBass II, Definition and Dialog Clarity independently. Hence, it meets the demands of the discriminating listener.

The DSP has a Mono to 5.1-channel input and 2-channel to 5.1-channel output. Small lot production is available, because of built-in OTP memory. It is packaged in a Pb-free SSOP32. Engineering samples are available now.
