16-/18bit SoCs handle high-speed data acquisition

Texas Instruments Inc.'s 18bit ADS8284 and 16bit ADS8254 SoC solutions make developing ultrahigh performance ADC front ends for precision applications easier and faster. The SoC's combine for the first time TI's latest generation successive approximation register (SAR) ADCs with all the components necessary to optimize design around the ADC, often the most challenging part of system design. They are targeted at high-speed data acquisition, ATE and medical imaging.

The SoCs boast best-in-class AC and DC performance at 1MSps, providing guaranteed performance characterized for the entire input channel from the multiplexer to the digital output, including the driving amplifier. Fully integrated SoC including four-channel mux, input operational amplifier, 6ppm/C reference and reference buffer reduces design complexity and cost while ensuring that real-world applications achieve data-sheet performance levels. Also, ultralow channel drift maximizes reliability and repeatability for critical measurements.

They are available now in 64-pin QFN package. At 1,000-unit quantities, they are priced at $20.50 and $16.50 for the ADS8284 and ADS8254.
