MAX2172 digital radio tuner

From Maxim Integrated Products comes the MAX2172 digital radio tuner for FM and digital audio broadcast (DAB) signals, offering high sensitivity for the FM, VHF and L-band frequency ranges.

The tuner integrates all components necessary to implement a complete solution, including LNAs, mixers, IF filter and a fully synthesized local oscillator. The IC also integrates a front-end tracking filter to eliminate interference between the UHF, VHF and FM bands.

Fast and accurate scan and seek functions are achieved by an on-chip received-signal-strength indicator (RSSI) and temperature sensor. The RSSI provides 2dB accuracy and outputs the measured level in digital form through the I?C bus. FM sensitivity is -111dBm (typ), and FM adjacent-channel performance meets ETSI EN 55020. The MAX2172 draws 61mA (typ) from a single 3V supply making it suitable for consumer and automotive applications.

The MAX2172 uses a 2.048MHz IF frequency compatible with most DAB digital demodulators. It is packaged in a Pb-free, 6mm x 6mm, 40-pin TQFN, and is fully specified over the -40C to +85C extended temperature range. Pricing starts at $4 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
