SemiLEDs Corp. has entered into a joint cooperation with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan to convert some of the research center's street lamps into LED systems. The lamps currently use metal halide bulbs.

The LED street lamps will use a 24W LED system designed by ITRI with high-power LED chips from SemiLEDs and ITRI's optical lens design and light-weight thermal solution. The system contains P2 Lamps that were packaged by Helios Crew Corp.

The LED system uses less than 10 percent of the 240W of power required for the metal halide systems while providing greater light quality and distribution and virtually eliminating maintenance costs.

Ian Chan, VP and general director of ITRI said, "ITRI campus is the open environment for new pilot technologies. Therefore, we decided to adopt the latest and most advanced systems in LED lighting technology to illuminate our campus."

"SemiLEDs' patented LED chips, packaged in HCC's high performance and high reliability lamps, provide more light consistency, longer life and more efficiency at a better value than any LED on the market today," said Chuong Tran, president of SemiLEDs.
