Maxim Integrated Products introduces an avalanche photodiode (APD) bias output stage and current-monitoring IC in a 3mm x 3mm TDFN package.

Designed using Maxim's BiCMOS process, the DS1842 integrates a 76V current source and dual current mirrors for monitoring APD current. It touts a FET switch that is configured to work in conjunction with an external DC/DC controller to implement a DC/DC boost converter. The DS1842 is suited for APD biasing and current monitoring in GPON ONUs and OLTs.

The DS1842 is fully specified over the -40C to +85C extended temperature range, and is available in a small, 3mm x 3mm, 14-pin TDFN package with an exposed pad. Pricing begins at $0.90 (1,000-up, FOB USA).
