SlimStack SMT board-to-board connectors

Molex has released the miniature SlimStack SMT board-to-board connectors, claimed to be smallest for mobile devices and other tight packaging applications.

The SlimStack series have a 0.40mm pitch, a 0.70mm mated height and a width of only 2.60mm. The connectors offer a better combination of overall space savings and reliable electrical contact when compared to similar versions in the marketplace today, says the manufacturer, offering about 25 percent space savings compared to many competitive 0.40mm pitch types.

In addition to their ultralow profile and narrow width, features and benefits of the new connectors include a two-point contact design and 0.18mm wipe length for secure contact and reliable electrical performance.

A nickel-barrier plating prevents solder flux intrusion, a tactile click sound and feel confirms secure mating, and gold-plated terminals ensure durability over repeated cycling.

The SlimStack connector versions are available in 20-50 circuits and have four solder tabs on each mating side for secure PCB retention. The system is rated at 50V and 0.3A.

In addition, the housing mould designs include a wide area to accommodate vacuum pick-and-place nozzles, which avoids the extra material and assembly costs of using vacuum tape.
