Blue Wonder Communications GmbH has unveiled what it touts is the first embeddable LTE modem core.

The BWC200 product is an LTE subsystem that can be integrated in SoC platforms, and consists of a PHY including layer 1 hardware and software.

BWC200 is a time division duplex (TDD) and frequency division duplex (FDD) multimode solution, up to category 4 that supports data rates of up to 150Mbit/s. TDD and FDD modes for data transmission LTE differ in the number of frequency bands used. In TDD mode the same frequency band is used to transmit and receive signals in alternating sequence. In FDD mode the receiver and transmitter operate simultaneously at different frequency bands. Since both modes are used in different regions of the world and even within the same region, BWC200 enables the usage of LTE applications everywhere. The BWC200 modem is 3GPP Release 8 compliant and optimized for lowest power consumption and smallest chip area.

"With BWC200, semiconductor companies are now able to acquire all of our LTE modem and SoC expertise in a single IP package," said Wolfram Drescher, managing director at Blue Wonder, in a statement.

"Twenty years ago modems were complete end-customer products. Today they are just one building block amongst many," said Peter Meyer, managing director and head of development. "Progressive solutions need to be size- and power-optimized, easy to integrate and flexible to be tailored to customer needs. And that's what BWC200 is."

BWC200 will be delivered to licensors on the BlueGate development platform and tested in real-time using state-of-the-art protocol testers. It is part of a joint reference platform Blue Wonder is developing in cooperation with its partners.
