Humidity, temp sensor promises long-term stability

SHT21 sensors

Sensirion has sampled its SHT21 digital humidity and temperature sensor in 2009 and is set to start volume production next month.

The SHT21 has the sensor chip encapsulated in a DFN 3-0 package, making the chip completely over-molded, except the humidity sensing area. The components size is reduced to a 3mm x 3mm footprint with 1.1mm height. Over-molding provides protection against aging and ambient impact, such as condensation and harsh environments, and yields long-term stability.

The device has an I?C digital interface and analog output modes (such as PWM) are available on request. The sensor consumes power in the range of 3?W at normal operation and has typical accuracy of 2 percent RH over 20 to 80 percent RH and 0.3C over 25C to 42C.

The SHT21 has been qualified in accordance with automotive standard AEC-Q100.
