Acriche LED

Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd has developed an AC LED capable of 150lm/W, surpassing the luminous efficiency of DC LEDs. The company said the LED will be part of its Acriche range and begin production in Q4.

Seoul Semi claims the Acriche LEDs are more efficient than halogen lamps, incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent lamps and can be driven by alternating current without the need for an AC/DC converter. The company has also begun mass-production of its AC-powered LED lamp, which has an efficacy of 100lm/W.

The European Union began enforcing a ban on the sale of incandescent light bulbs of more than 100W in September 2009.
