EXFO Inc. debuts an optical spectrum analyzer that is purpose-built for fast and accurate dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) network commissioning and high-speed network upgrades up to 40G. The module runs 10-20 times faster, depending on the application being run, according to the test and service assurance solutions provider for wireless and wireline network operators and equipment manufacturers.

When equipped with in-band optical-signal-to-noise-ratio (OSNR) measurement capabilities, the FTB-5240S is suited as a field-grade 40G and ROADM network commissioning tool. EXFO's proprietary in-band OSNR test method delivers accurate measurements for next-generation systems in which noise can fluctuate from channel to channel. Traditional OSNR test tools produce erroneous results, especially for ROADMs and 40G systems. The built-in patent-pending hybrid detection capabilities on EXFO's optical spectrum analyzer enable customers to obtain accurate and automated OSNR measurements from a next-generation network.

The processing speed increase significantly accelerates the FTB-5240S's applications. For instance, all acquisitions are now performed 10 times faster, re-analysis using different parameters is now 14 times faster, and trace loading is now 20 times faster.
