The Das Universal Bootloader (U-Boot) is a firmware/bootloader for hardware platforms. The U-Boot is widely used in embedded designs. The U-Boot supports common processor architectures such as ARM, power architecture, microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages (MIPS) and x86. In addition to the bootstrapping functionality, the U-Boot also supports other features that are part of the open source project, which is available under General Purpose Line (GPL).

The U-Boot firmware is ported to operate on several i.MX application processors and development boards. However, customers are often required to adapt to some key areas of the source code to make the source code operate on a new hardware platform based on the i.MX processor.

This application note deals with the i.MX25 3-stack U-Boot source code where adaptation is required. Also, this application note defines guidelines for configuring Eclipse IDE for U-Boot development.
