IXYS Corp. has unveiled demo boards for the LDS87xx family of inductor-based, high efficiency LED drivers without the Schottsky diode.

Demo boardstwo-layer fully assembled and tested surface mount boardsspeed up the measuring of electrical characteristics and waveforms with easy probe access points to LED drivers' inputs and outputs. Each board has one driver with an LED matrix that corresponds to the maximum number of LEDs it is capable of driving.

The LDS87xx LED driver family is equipped with the patent-pending SmartOne Wire Interface, which sets the maximum LED current in the 0.5-32mA range in 0.25mA increments. It also boasts of PWM dimming control. The driver family can drive from 10 to 42 LEDs using a single-cell lithium-ion battery or supply voltage from 2.7V to 5.5V. The 0.7MHz frequency LDS8710/11 are used in LCD display backlight applications measuring up to 7" such as smartphones, portable multimedia devices, E-book readers, personal navigation systems, personal medical displays and digital photo frames. The 1MHz LDS8720/24/26, on the other hand, are used in larger LCD displays such as automotive displays, GPS devices, netbooks, laptop PCs, tablet computers and industrial and medical displays.
