As file storage demands increase, as well as migration to HD from standard-definition continue, the appeal of SuperSpeed USB connectivity becomes more pronounced. Projected penetration levels are expected to reach 60 percent by 2014 in this CE segment, according to In-Stat research.

In-Stat principal analyst Brian O'Rourke explained, "SuperSpeed USB can move 25GB of data in 70 seconds, the same amount of data would take nearly 14 minutes using high-speed USB. This dramatic leap in download times makes the adoption of SuperSpeed USB into digital camcorders and cameras a natural migration." He also added that the first SuperSpeed USB camcorders hit is expected to hit the market in Q2 2011.

Recent In-Stat research also reveals that in 2014, about 7 million set top boxes will have integrated SuperSpeed USB. In terms of flash drives, 225 million units will ship with SuperSpeed USB, representing a CAGR of 791.8 percent from 2009 to 2014.
