GigOptix Inc announced the sampling availability of its new GX62455, a quad-channel 7.5Vpp Mach-Zenhder Modulator (MZM) driver designed for 100G DP-QPSK long haul optical transmitters.

GigOptix' GX62455 is a 32Gb/s quad MZM driver with a high voltage output, presenting in a compact form (25x32mm) GPPO module that has integrated low and high frequency chokes and requires no external components for rapid and simplified application. The connectors on the GX62455 have also been designed to be form-factor compatible with current 100G multiplexer and modulators for ready system integration.

The driver achieves a data rate of up to 32Gbit/s per lane for 100G DP-QPSK applications. It also touts low RMS jitter, adjustable single ended V out to 7.5Vpp, adjustable eye cross point, and wide range of Input voltage levels. Its typical power consumption is 6W@Vout=7.5Vpp.

GigOptix vice president Padraig O'Mathuna explains, "This MZM driver in conjunction with our current 100G GX3222 Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA) offers customers a one-stop-shop for 100G DP-QPSK applications and we intend to further develop system 'bundles' consisting of a driver and a TIA with future modulators that are tailored for specific DWDM applications." He says that the company is focused on providing a complete physical layer solution to enable customers to achieve optimal system performance, with the smallest size and lowest power as well as a cost competitive solution available in the market.

In a recent report on 100G components, Ovum projected that the 100G DWDM line side market would launch in 2010 and expand to over 16,000 units by 2015 with a CAGR of 140 percent.
