Nuvoton Technology Corp. said it has created the world's most inexpensive voice-playback device for industrial, medical and automotive applications. The ChipCorder ISD15D00 incorporates a 3V regulator for external flash memory and 1W speakerdriver and operates on 2.7V-5.5V voltage.

Designed for a wide range of applications, including automobile electronics, home appliances, medical equipments and industrial systems, the ChipCorder ISD15D00 lowers the bill-of-material cost as there is no need to add a regulator or an amplifier.

Used in automotive applications, the ChipCorder ISD15D00 provides audio-quality voice playback in entertainment, traffic information, and warning systems, Nuvoton said in a statement. It also complies with the Automotive Electronics Council's strict AEC-Q100 strict stress-test standards.

In medical applications such as glucose meters, automated external defibrillators and blood pressure meters and in security systems, vending machines and point-of-sale displays, the ISD15D00 can be programmed to carry branding messages.

Key features include digital decompression, comprehensive memory management, message management, and integrated analog/digital audio signal paths. It also integrates with serial flash memory for a two-chip solution for non-volatile audio playback.

An I2S digital audio interface and a serial peripheral interface are available for taking digital audio data in either 32kHz, 44.1kHz or 48kHz sample rates.

The ISD15D00 comes in a 32-pin QFN green packaging while the industrial-grade ISD3800, which has all the programming and playback features of the ISD15D00, is available in a 48-pin LQFP package.
