AMD begins North America demos of "Zacate" APU

AMD unveils the first North America public demonstrations of its AMD Fusion Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) this week in San Francisco. The APU, codenamed "Zacate," is a new dual-core, 18-watt TDP processor which possess discrete-level graphics capabilities on die and is designed to significantly enhance the user's PC experience. Focused on value and mainstream notebooks and desktops, "Zacate" APU-based platforms deliver many of the vivid digital computing experiences previously reserved for high-end PCs into the opening price points of the mainstream segment.

The demos promise to feature full HD streaming online video; immersive online gaming with high image-quality settings and accelerated Internet browsing side-by-side side-by-side against currently available AMD- and Intel processor-based notebooks .

Throughout the week, AMD executives will post frequent blog entries on AMD's official blog on the company's demonstrations as well as commentary on new developments in the CPU, GPU and APU markets. The first two updates discuss the consumer PC market and the software developer ecosystem.
